Jigmechu, in the past, was indeed called by the name “Majhathang”, meaning the “flat land of peacocks”. Jigmechu is a scenic settlement on the banks of Wangchu river in Chhukha located 180 meters above sea level.
The place is located only 49 Kms. away from Gedu. From Thimphu, travel time is less than four hours to reach Jigmechu. The well-paved national highway from Gedu to Lhamoyzingkha and its proximity to Chhukha and Thimphu has made it a favorite winter recreation spot, especially for picnickers. On the banks of Wanghcu river with cool winter, camping and picnic sites and a pilgrimage visit to Jigmechu Ney are the main selling points for Jigmechu to the visitors.
Jigmechu, the beautiful river that acts as a territorial boundary for Chhukha and Dagana, ends at the lower part of Bayulkuenzang village after getting connected to the river Raidak. The river Raidak divides Bayulkuenzang and Sharphu, where the two villages both have beautiful landscapes, and people live in harmony.
