Trashigang Dzong (The Fortress of the Auspicious Hill) is one of the largest dzong fortress in eastern Bhutan. The fortress was built in 1659 in order to defend against Tibetan invasions during historic period but in the present day the dzong host a monastic community besides acting as the central administrative center of the Trashigang District. According to the legend. It was founded by Trongsa Penlop Chhogyal Minjur Tempa when the eastern region of the country was brought under Drukpa rule prior to the prophecies of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. The Dzong consist inner sanctum of a guardian deity (gongkhang) and several other temples like the Lam Lhakhang, Guru Lhakhang, Tshogshing Lhakhang, from the courtyard it commands a remarkable view over the surrounding countryside.
