Darjeeling HMI

The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) in Darjeeling is a renowned institution established on November 4, 1954, by India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The institute was founded to promote mountaineering as a sport and has since become one of the best schools for mountaineering training in the world. Over 50,000 students, including more than 20,000 from abroad, have trained here, with many going on to achieve great success in mountaineering. The institute’s location offers breathtaking views of the mighty Kanchenjunga, making it a popular destination for tourists and aspiring mountaineers alike.

The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is located at Jawahar Parbat in Darjeeling. It operates from 9 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM, and is closed on Tuesdays and during the off-season.
